State Capitol Ag Day a success |

Ag Day was a great day with hundreds of people meandering through the many displays. As we talked with people, there were those who recalled what a great organization the Grange had been back in the 1800’s when it was first organized. Much of the country was farms in those days, and they covered the whole gamut of operations from cattle to gardens, maple syrup to logging, bees to cider, and so forth. The Grange was a needed organization.
It still is a needed organization, but where once it was one organization, there are now many. There were displays on apples, honey bees, organic farms for vegetables, flowers, Christmas trees, the fishing industry, the dairy industry, maple syrup making, and organizations that are saving our environment and those who offer help to new and small farms.
Our display was simple, focusing mainly on the legislative work of the Grange. We would like to update it this year, and so I am asking those who have special events and especially those who have fairs if they will send pictures, some of your best, to me, Janet Healy, 383 E. Litchfield Rd., Litchfield 06759 so that we can display them next year as part of what we do and what we are.
I do have one thank you to give. Jon Hermonot volunteered his family to make the cookies which we give out. They were in little plastic bags, and Jon make the Grange logo to put on top of each cookie. To out it in female terms, they were so cute.
