View From the Hill: Could your iPhone really bring the plane down?

By Grace Boatright, National Grange Legislative Director (View From The Hill Blog 8/29/12)

  AUGUST 29, 2012 --

This is hardly Grange related but I found this interesting article yesterday describing how the FAA is reconsidering the use of electronic devices onboard airplanes. They’re even seeking your input by opening the issue for public comment.

I had a date with a pilot once who admitted to me that the use of cellphones onboard planes doesn’t interfere with their instruments as much as it interferes with the FCC’s ability to control the use of airwaves. Turns out, the use of cellphones on planes is banned by the FCC and not the FAA. Hmmmm…..

Here’s the link to the article: http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/27/travel/faa-electronics/index.html?hpt=hp_c2

And the link describing how to make comment on the issue: http://www.faa.gov/news/updates/media/PED_RFC_8-27-2012.pdf
