North Stonington Grange mourns loss of 70 yr. member Betty Campo

Betty E. (McGowan) Campo, 88, of North Stonington, beloved wife of the late Charles A. Campo, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010.

Born in Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Bessie (Babcock) McGowan and had lived in North Stonington for most of her life.

Betty for many years volunteered her time and efforts at the North Stonington Grammar School. She also cared for many children in her home for several years. She was a longtime member of the Third Baptist Church and a 70-year member of the North Stonington Grange.

She leaves her three children, Thomas Campo and his wife, Shirley, of Old Lyme, James H. Campo of North Stonington and Betty Jean Doucette and her husband, David, of Ledyard; two brothers, James and Edmund McGowan, and a sister, Mary Gavitt, all of North Stonington; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson, Brian Hilbert.

The family will receive friends Friday, May 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 8, at 10 a.m. at the Third Baptist Church, Rocky Hollow Road, North Stonington. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, North Stonington.
