| APRIL 2010 -- Do you think of the many changes that have occurred in the recent years? Twenty-five years ago Connecticut had a good number of Junior Granges throughout the state. They were active with interesting programs and participating in contests. Junior Grange Day was held at Camp Berger with activities commencing at 11:00 A.M. followed by a potluck lunch and a talent contest in the afternoon. The best of show could compete in the New England States contest that was held that year in Rhode Island.
This was the year the State Grange started the food exchange program with the Eastern Milk Producers. You placed an order for the food and a week or so later the truck would arrive at a designated place for the pick-up. I think the most popular was the ice cream. The program was enjoyed for several years but sadly came to an end when Sam's Club and BJ's came into vogue. |
