Cherry Brook Grange remembers Mary Zematis

Mary Zematis, 89, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Frank Zematis.

Born October 18, 1918, in Weehawken, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Angela and Joseph McDonald. She was a lifelong resident of Barkhamsted. After retiring from Baltimore Business Forms, she traveled extensively, managing to see 48 states. She spent summers in Connecticut with her family and winters in Arizona with her many nieces and nephews. She returned permanently to Connecticut three years ago, residing at 21 Dowd Ave., Canton, where she developed many new friendships.

She was a lifelong member of the Cherry Brook Grange and loved spending time with family and friends. Gardening and watching her birds and animals gave her much pleasure.

She is survived by two sons, Frank Zematis and his wife, Nancy, of Bristol and Robert Zematis and his wife, Louise, of Barkhamsted; four grandsons, Ronald Zematis of Middletown, Eric Zematis and his wife, Maria, of Wethersfield, John Zematis and his wife, Stacey, of Barkhamsted, and Lt. Mark Zematis of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m. at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, New Hartford. Burial will be held at Village Cemetery, New Hartford. Friends may call on Sunday, Aug. 10, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Montano-Shea Funeral Home.
