Our June meeting was election of officers. Most of our officers remained in their present offices, with a few new members, Sue Griffith, Nancy McComb and Kathie Londi who took the office of three years on the Executive Committee. Our Overseer, Linda Harkins won third place in the state cookie contest.
We held a ham and bean supper on the second Wednesday. We need more members participating in these dinners. Bring your friends next time. Coming up in August, a cold dinner. Too hot to cook. That should be on Aug. 9. Our Silent Auction went well with many gift cards. Lovely made up baskets, thanks to many community generous businesses and Nancy Arenas hard work.
Our picnic on July 17 was held at Quaddick State Park. There is a covered area. Hopefully it wasn't needed!
We plan a speaker on gardens for our Aug. 7 meeting. Aug. 21 will be our Golden Sheaf Night at 7 P.M. We will be happy to see some “gold”- Golden Sheafers. Here at Killingly we have at least 5. Please do try to come.
On June 17 we held a ritual night with State Master Noel Miller and Sister Marcia. State Lecturer Marge Bernhardt was also with us. It was an “enlightening” program. We were missing some of our new members who were absent. Even our older members were enlightened and renewed with the ritual. Thank you Marge, Noel and Marcia. Guess what they went home with? Beans from our previous dinner - Ham & Beans.
We are all sad about the disbanding of Wolf Den Grange. At one time, years ago, Pomona #2 had at least 16 Granges. There are few younger people interested in this “Great Fraternity” and the older members “Golden Sheafers” are slowly fading away. God bless those still willing and able to participate. |
