November News from Glastonbury Grange

By Kathryn Ruff

  NOVEMBER 4, 2014 --

This fall backpacks and school supplies were delivered to the Glastonbury Social Service Department for children in need of these items for school by Glastonbury Grange.  We recently delivered “The Best Dictionary for Students” to the third graders at the Nayaug School.  It is always so nice to see the surprise expressions on the students.

Bedding for small animals has also been delivered to a local veterinarian.

October 4th we held our Semi-Annual Bake and Tag Sale.  Much thanks to all the members who bake for the sale and/or bring items for the tag sale.  Also much thanks to all those who give up their Saturday morning to help out at the event.  As I am preparing this article on Sept. 29th I can only say that I assume it was a successful day.  Thank you one and all.

The November meeting is entitled “Turkey Time.”  November 8th will be our 1st Monte Carlo Whist Card Party.  The October one had to be canceled due to a conflict of interest with the Masons.  Hopefully that will not happen again.

We will have a short business meeting for our December 4th meeting.  We will then retire to a local restaurant for the “Holiday Party.”  As I am typing this a decision has not been made as to what restaurant we will go to.  I am sure we will collect children’s books in place of exchanging Christmas gifts with each other.  The children’s books will be delivered to the Glastonbury Social Service Department.  Last year we collected 60+ books, so hopefully we will be able to collect the same amount.  They do help make some child have a happy holiday.  I wish all a “Happy Thanksgiving.”
