| OCTOBER 5, 2013 -- August was a busy month for Harmony Grange. We had our monthly meeting on August which included the election of officers. Officers who had served for the past two years were reelected with the exception of Chaplain and Pomona. Our new Chaplain will be Valerie Barrachina and our new Pomona will be Gertrude Wilson.
We held our annual Agricultural Fair on August 24,2013. We had renters along with Farm Market Exhibitors that were invited by Ron and Gail Bunovsky. A farm truck with a load of hay was made available by Leon Smith and a large farm tractor was driven to the fair grounds and parked for the day by Rudy Hudak, a local retired dairy farmer. Exhibitors for the day included TLC, Benedicts, Jones Family Farms, Masons, Zankos Farms, Twombley Nursury, and Pondview Nursery. Of great interest was the wood carving using a chainsaw by Jay Dubac. Monroe Patch, one of Monroe’s correspondents, entitled his work, “ It Takes a Chainsaw to Make a Cuddy Bear”. Another article by Patch was a picture and write up of Gertrude Wilson, one of our workers at the fair, and a grange member for 75 years. Patch also did another article on the fresh produce and plant supplies sold at Harmony Grange’s annual Agricultural Fair & Bake Sale Saturday that showcased all Monroe’s farming businesses have to offer. The article was titled “This is Proof that We Are a Farming Community”. Patch’s Web Site is monroe.patch.com. Another correspondent, EyeOnMonroe.com, a Monroe’s Online Magazine, took pictures of our vegetables display with some of the workers at the fair. This article will be made available also to the surrounding communities. Bob Sendewicz judged our vegetables, fruit and plants; Marge Sendewicz and Joan Ziegler judged needlework and other exhibits.
For our September meeting, we will have neighbors night and Community Award presentation. We are inviting a speaker from the community to speak on farming for the award. We will also honor our neighbor, Ron Deaso and his wife Nancy as he keeps our lawn mowed.
For October, we will have our Installation of Oficers The installing team will be Bob and Marge Sendewicz.Our meeting will be the fourth Friday in October instead of our usual meeting night which is the second Friday of each month. |
