| MARCH 17, 2010 -- Horace D. Gillette, 73, of Hillside Avenue, Waterbury, died March 15 at St. Mary's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Maie L. (Squires) Gillette.
Mr. Gillette was born May 3, 1926, in Roxbury, son of the late D. Benjamin and Sarah Bertha (Tuttle) Gillette.
He was a graduate of Washington High School. During World War II, he served in the United States Army as a clerk typist in the European theater under both General Omar Bradley and General Dwight D. Eisenhower.
After the war he attended Henry Abbott Technical School in Danbury, specializing in carpentry. For 33 years he was employed by the Southbury Training School as the laundry manager.
Mr. Gillette was a member and past state deputy of the Connecticut State Grange and was a 7th degree Mason in St. Peter's Lodge No. 21 in New Milford.
He is survived by four sons; Gary W. Gillette of Enfield, Gregory A. Gillette of Washington, Guy H. Gillette of Danbury and Todd A. Gillette of Roxbury; two daughters, Cheryl A. Bennett of New Preston and Tracey L. Bertulis of Northfield; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a special friend, Galo Marriot.
