First and Third Mondays: Quilts of Valor work group, open to all

February 10th was our very first Pancake Breakfast as a revitalized Grange, and it was successful beyond expectations. Thank you to all the Grangers, near and far, who came out in support. We plan to do this alternating with meatball lunches – two months breakfast, one month lunch.

For our January lecturer’s program, Aili McKeen, a volunteer conservation/hunter safety educator with CT DEEP, presented on The North American Model for Wildlife Conservation and the Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act. She included the program’s history, scientific basis, and interesting insights with visuals.

Our February meeting program was putting together Birthday Cake kits for the local food pantry. Each kit contained everything needed to make a cake, including a foil pan and package of candles. 22 kits were delivered to Master’s Manna.

In January we began a Quilt of Valor group with the intention of meeting monthly, then decided to increase that to twice a month, and now the talk is making it an open craft night so that more people will be encouraged to come out to socialize. We’re almost done with our first quilt top too! QofV can accept donations of money or materials for this worthy cause.

There’s a full calendar with the next events being a Pancake Breakfast on Mar. 16, an Easter Egg hunt that immediately follows. April 7 is a High Tea Painting Party, which is like a paint & sip only “dry,” so tea instead of wine. A facilitator guides participants in painting a floral still life – one does not need any particular talent to bring home a nice painting suitable for display. Later in April we will have a meatball lunch and a youth seed day. Also, we are working with a Girl Scout who wishes to make a pollinator pathway garden at our Hall.

Our Lecturer Kathy Bergonzi came up with a game we’re playing called “Counting Granges.” Members take a selfie with a sign printed with our logo and the year, in front of other Grange Halls. You may see us doing this at your hall, be assured it’s nothing nefarious.

The Fair committee has begun planning for the Wallingford Grange Fair to be held Sept. 14. Mark your calendars & start those projects to enter!
